For our spring 2027 concert, Extradition will explore six of John Cage’s so-called “Number Pieces,” a series of 40 works composed during the last six years of Cage's life, 1987–1992. The name of each piece derives from the number of performers involved (e.g., “Two”), with a numeral added to distinguish later works for that number of performers (e.g., “Two2”). Most of the scores consists of short fragments, along with time brackets indicating the windows within which those fragments can be sounded.
